What Inspires You?

What inspires you?? Inspiration is such a vital part of any creative path, and we designers are always on the lookout for art, objects, places and experiences that will refresh our palette and design sensibilities! Listed below are a few of the things we find inspiring, and we’d love to hear from you as to what inspires your own creativity!

1. Travel

One of our favorite inspiring activities is to see the world! Whether a day trip or a full-on vacation, traveling helps us stay open to inspiration in the moment. When we travel, we break from routine, and tend to notice things more, even everyday details. Exotic locales are especially inviting as they may have textiles, architecture and cultural design sensibilities we don’t see in our normal workdays.

2. Fine Dining

For inspiration closer to home, why not try a new restaurant known for inspiring presentation? Creative food plating is itself an art, and uses a lot of the same principles we use in any design project: balance, contrast, excitement, the rule of thirds, etc. Plus, it’s a lot easier to stay inspired after a delicious meal!

3. The Natural World

With immediate access to the ocean, we are never more than a few minutes away from inspiration. The natural world is an incredible place to clear your mind from the tasks of everyday, and allow your imagination to run freely. When we have a challenging space or need a fresh perspective, spending time outdoors always recharges the design batteries.

4. Art and Objects

There is nothing like a simple object to bring out the kids in all of us! Whether a handmade craft, an old toy, or an interesting piece of hardware for a desk drawer, we are endlessly inspired by everyday objects and, of course, art. We are committed to supporting local art in our community and find building relationships with local artists and fellow designers to be an amazing source of inspiration. As we’ve seen, time and time again, the right piece of art can be the foundation for a room, or truly elevate the space from good to great!

5. A Little AD Inspiration

Architectural Digest (AD) is often recognized as the premier magazine for interior design (we were so grateful to have our window treatments featured in a past issue!!) and their team is known for presenting the latest design trends in a way that keeps them classy and refined.
